Cabernet Sauvignon comes from Bordeaux in France and the Napa Valley in California but grapes from these regions can command high prices.
So where to look for an affordable Cabernet Sauvignon?
Look for Cabernet Sauvignon from Coonawarra in Australia. This is an area with the perfect climate and terra rossa.
My favourite is Wynns Cabernet Sauvignon which is made by female winemaker Sue Hodder.
Sue Hodder has been making wine at an iconic Coonawarra winery for more than 25 years, but today she’s one of Australia’s best-known winemakers, producing world-class wines at Wynns Coonawarra Estate. Quality and heritage are central to her winemaking philosophy, but it’s her forward-looking focus on sustainability and the evolution of Australian Cabernet Sauvignon that sets her apart.
The Wynns Black Label Cabernet Sauvignon 2019 is made from 70-year-old vines. Hodder is a “romantic for old vines”, she says – “I love rigorous interrogations of old vineyards.”
