Cabernet Sauvignon comes from Bordeaux in France and the Napa Valley in California but grapes from these regions can command high prices.

So where to look for an affordable Cabernet Sauvignon?

Look for Cabernet Sauvignon from Coonawarra in Australia. This is an area with the perfect climate and terra rossa.

My favourite is Wynns Cabernet Sauvignon which is made by female winemaker Sue Hodder.

The Wynns Black Label Cabernet Sauvignon 2019 is made from 70-year-old vines. Hodder is a “romantic for old vines”, she says – “I love rigorous interrogations of old vineyards.”

It's a beautiful wine filled with black fruit, and black cherry with fine tannin, it’s smooth, juicy and rounded. I enjoyed it this Sunday with lamb but it could easily pair with spicy grilled salmon with coriander salsa or steak.
